Why listen to Dharma Teachings?

Listening to teachings lies at the heart of the Dharma.

Dharma teachings are markedly different from teachings in science and religion.

In science and religion, we have to rely upon the authority of others. We often cannot confirm through our own experience the conclusions of many scientific theories or religious assumptions.

The Dharma does not attempt to formulate theories dependent on the origins of human history nor adopts religious beliefs that cannot be confirmed through direct experience. 

The validity of Dharma teachings and practices are confirmed through first hand experience. Listening to the teachings and practices are inseparably dependent upon each other.

Listening without practice is theory. Practice without listening is limited.

We listen to Dharma teachings to contribute directly to finding wisdom for the multiple issues that surround daily life. The teachings quote regularly the Buddha’s wisdom.

We listen to Dharma teachings to see what is valuable for the listener in what is said and apply.

We listen to Dharma teachings to experience the direct benefits in daily life. The teachings also offer the use of simple, practical methods to live with clarity and insight.

Our first hand immediate experience is the criteria.

Dharma teachings explore an extensive range of ethics, depths of meditation, the nature of awareness, the importance of heart opening experiences, development of mind, profound realisations, awakening, non-duality and liberation.

We live in an era where dharma teachings are available on CD, and more and more on DVD.

Remember the simple criteria in the Dharma. To dissolve problems, to open to deeper levels of love and to wake up.
